Victor Pivovarov: Lost Keys

22.03.2016 – 15.05.2016

Main Building

The Pushkin State Museum of Fine Arts will be housing an exhibition of Victor Pivovarov’s “Lost Keys” cycle. Pivovarov, one of the classics of Russian contemporary art, completed this new cycle of paintings at the end of 2015. These artworks, based on a subtle pun of historical and artistic associations, create a distinct space where personal and even biographic details intercross and get revised in the light of Old Masters’ images and techniques. The intellectual complecity of themes, the delicacy of the artistic technique and the consistency of lines, characteristic of the series, allude to the great masters of Ars Nova. It is exactly for this reason that the project will be presented as a dialogue between the Classical and the Contemporary – the “Lost Keys” exhibition will be integrated into the permanent display of works by the masters of the Northern Renaissance.

“These are some free reflections about Old Masters. The series turns out to be very powerful, and I guess, if I am not wrong, these are the best of my works after the “Projects for a Lonely Man” (Victor Pivovarov).
