For the first time in Russia, The Pushkin State Museum of Fine Arts presents such an extensive exhibition of artworks by Georgian artists of the first third of the 20th century. Visitors will be able to see works by Niko Pirosmanashvili (Pirosmani), Vladimir (Lado) Gudiashvili, David Kakabadze, Kirill Zdanevich, Alexander Bazhbeuk-Melikov (Melikyan), Elene Akhvlediani, Irakli Gamrekeli, Petre Otskheli, and Zygmunt Waliszewski. The exhibition will present 200 paintings, easel drawings and theatrical decorations from major Russian and Georgian museums and private collections.

The exhibition «The Voices of André Malraux’s Imaginary Museum» is dedicated to the memory of a man who played a key role in the cultural life of postwar France. Writer and cultural theorist, hero of the French Resistance and Minister of Culture in Charles de Gaulle’s government, André Malraux (1901–1976) attached a lot of importance to the philosophy of art during his entire life.

Princes Golitsyn’s Family Estate that constitutes a part of the Museum Quarter of The Pushkin State Museum of Fine Arts continues its activity. The new exhibition project ‘House of Impressions. Wandering with a Troubadour’ represents a development of reflections on contemporary artistic vision and language. Artists participating in the project become modern troubadours; they address universal means of communication – sound and music – that make it possible for various communities to understand each other when words are unable to do so.

The display will include nearly 20 paintings by major Dutch masters of the Golden Age – Pieter de Hooch, Gabriel Metsu, Frans van Mieris the Elder, Richard Brakenburg, Pieter Janssens Elinga, along with furniture and arts and crafts objects made of gold, silver, porcelain, and glass, all of which constituted an essential part of a burgher’s house and an object of their owners’ passion and vanity.

The concept of an exhibition of Albert Marquet’s (1875–1947) works was conceived and fulfilled by the curators of Musée d'Art Moderne de la Ville de Paris as a monographic research on the oeuvre of this renowned French artist. The exhibits – from the early “Algerian” studies up to the later Marquet’s paintings depicting views of Parisian quais and squares – come from European and American museums and private collections.

The Pushkin State Museum of Fine Arts is planning to host a major exhibition dedicated to the art of Giovanni Battista Piranesi (1720–1778), an Italian engraver, architect, researcher, decorator, and collector of Ancient Roman objects. The display will include more than 100 etchings by Piranesi, engravings and drawings by his predecessors and followers, plaster casts, medals, books, models from the collection of the Pushkin State Museum of Fine Arts, the Cini Foundation (Venice), the Schusev State Museum of Architecture, the Russian Academy of Fine Arts Museum, and other collections based in Russia and Western Europe.

The exhibition includes more than forty large format works on paper that exhibit a variety of techniques. There are several series, the largest of which is “Vase Variations.” Here the painter essentially retains the silhouettes of Classical Antique vases, but within this harmonious space plays with shapes, colors, textures, and even styles. Other works in the exhibition include paintings from the series “The Judgement of Paris,” “Pygmalion,” “The End of Pompeii,” and “The Hades.”

Bakst was a Russian theatrical designer, painter, portraitist, book illustrator, interior designer, and fashion designer during the 1910s. He published numerous articles on contemporary design and dance, he was also interested in photography and cinema, and wrote a novel based on his biography. Being fond of the art of Ancient Greece and Orient, Bakst merged classical motives with the eccentricity of Art Nouveau in his art.

The display will show more than 140 arts and crafts objects created by the inhabitants of present-day Gabon, Congo, and the Democratic Republic of the Congo. The exhibition will help visitors extend their knowledge on the learning methods of the Russian academic school of the 18th century. It is no coincidence that the display is located in the Olympic hall, surrounded by plaster casts similar to those, which could be found in studios. Plaster casts constituted the second step of artistic education, while the first one was dedicated to engraved “models”.

The present exhibit is held on the occasion of the 160th birthday of the outstanding Russian scholar Vladimir Golenishchev (1856–1947), whose priceless collection became the foundation of the Egyptian Collection of the Pushkin State Museum of Fine Arts. Two statues of king Amenemhat III from the State Hermitage Museum (where Golenishchev worked as a keeper in 1880–1916) and the Pushkin State Museum of Fine Arts are displayed side by side for the first time.

The Pushkin State Museum of Fine Arts is proud to present “Iliazd. The 20th century of Ilya Zdanevich” – the first retrospective exhibition dedicated to Ilya Zdanevich (1894–1975) to be shown in Russia. The display tells about the oeuvre of this poet, theorist of the Russian avant-garde, ethnographer, textile designer, and publisher. Zdanevich (Iliazd) was in close relationship with the leading artists of the 20th century – Pablo Picasso, Max Ernst, Joan Miro, and many others, as a friend and a colleague. The exhibition will feature all the editions created by Ilya Zdanevitch as livres d'artiste as well as more than 200 related original drawings by the masters he worked with.

New acquisitions are shown to the audience on a regular basis as a form of report on Museum’s activities. This exhibition tells about the acquisitions of the years 2009 – 2014 made for the Departments of Prints and Drawings, and Private collections.
