Not all stages in the development of world art and national schools are represented in the Museum in a comprehensive way, yet the exhibition provides a vivid picture of the world's artistic culture and confronts visitors with the work of major artists, the main genres of painting and sculpture and with examples of pottery and furniture.

The collection of works from Ancient Egypt in this Museum is the finest in our country. A prominent place among the works on show is accorded those of Italian artists from the 13th-18th centuries. Visitors can also see works by the leading painters from 17th-century Holland and Flanders, in particular those of Rembrandt and Rubens. The most extensive collection within the Museum is that of French art, where visitors' attention will be drawn to works by Corneille de Lyon, Poussin and Watteau, Boucher and Chardin and Jacques-Louis David and the painters of his school.

The displays in the halls devoted to Ancient Egypt, original works from the Graeco-Roman period and the Picture Gallery are relatively easy to move, which means that if certain works need to be temporarily removed for a variety of reasons, this does not present a major problem.
