Museum to gather carriages for installation by Cai Guo-Qiang14.06.2017 A giant installation will appear in front of the Pushkin State Museum of Fine Arts in the fall of 2017. It will be created by famous artist Cai Guo-Qiang from China. The installation will consist of young birches “growing” from baby cribs, carriages, and cradles. The Pushkin Museum will gather 350 baby carriages for the installation between June 14 and September 5, 2017. As the main idea of the project is to present the “human dimension” of history, the people's memory of their roots, Cai Guo-Qiang is in search of baby carriages and cribs with their own history for his project. Everyone donating a carriage or a crib to the Museum will make their family history a part of the world’s art history and be able to share it with millions of viewers around the globe. As part of his “October” project, the major exhibition spaces of the Museum will be transformed into a complete installation dedicated to the 100th anniversary of the October Revolution. It will include the renowned gunpowder works that made the artist famous in the world of art, as well as photographs, drawings, and sketches. The highlight of the Moscow exhibition will be the colossal installation “Autumn,” which will be created in front of the entrance to the main building. The façade and the famous portico will become a monument to thousands of human lives. The hand-made hill of birches “growing” from baby carriages and cribs will be a metaphor of our utopian childhood dreams of a beautiful future and an allusion to the famous scene from the film “Battleship Potemkin” by Sergei Eisenstein.
